In 1999, Hot Spring Village experienced a devasting ice storm which completely paralyzed the community. If had not been for your devoted employees, the devastation could have been much worse. The storm caused pine trees to snap and be pushed over throughout the Village, causing the roads to be impassable and very dangerous. Our employees, regardless of their normal job description, responded immediately by using chainsaws to clear the roads to ensure emergency vehicles could get to our Villagers, if needed. The massive cleanup to keep our Village functioning was a heroic effort by our employees, way beyond the normal call of duty. That is certainly part of why the Village is such a beautiful place to live.
A couple of months after the ice storm, a group of three individuals (Bud Holt, Bob Smith and Bill Brusenhan) got together because they wanted to find a nice way to say “THANK YOU” to each of the POA employees whose work so directly impacts the quality of our lives.
From that meeting, the Village Employees Benefit Fund (VEBF) was founded.
That first year, the founders were able to raise donations from their friends, so that each employee was given a $16 “THANK YOU” Christmas gift from the Fund. Since 1999, the Fund has continued through donations from more and more Villagers to provide annual “THANK YOU” Christmas gifts.
In 2020, because of the generosity of over a thousand Villagers, the VEBF was able to provide a cash gift of $200 for every full-time hourly employee, and $100 for every part-time hourly employee. These funds were distributed by VEBF board members in the lobby of the Woodlands Auditorium instead of the annual employee Christmas Luncheon, due to COVID-19 restrictions. We also enclosed a note saying it was from Villagers and local business sponsors who deeply appreciate their dedicated performance throughout the year.
The Village Employees Benefit Fund campaign is designed to let Villagers say “THANK YOU” to our approximately 400+ workers for their service. When we have an ice storm, crippling snowstorm, hurricane, tornado, or some other emergency, their services are very visible, and we feel thankful for the extra effort furnished by our dedicated workers.
What is not so visible is their day-to-day effectiveness, even though our workers must do their jobs in the heat, cold, and sometimes even dangerous conditions. They are always there when we need or call them regardless of the time and weather conditions.
In addition to the annual “THANK YOU” to all hourly employees, the VEBF has provided emergency assistance to several employees over the years during times of crisis in their personal lives. While the amounts were not large, the timing was critical for these employees and they were very appreciative.
The VEBF understands employee morale is precious! It only grows when there is a sense of loyalty and respect for a job well done. Every Villager who has ever required a service from the POA knows that our workers will do everything possible to ensure the problem is corrected quickly.
If you have donated to VEBF before, then we want to say thank you and hope you know that your donation really makes a difference in our worker’s lives.
If you haven’t made a donation in the past, then we hope you will consider supporting our workers for a job well done, not just today, but 365 days a year, to make Hot Springs Village one of the most beautiful and wonderful places to live.
